Chinese Products Roundup

I don’t know if this is the US media just piling on, or simply a growing “awareness” of Chinese product safety, but it seems like something is getting recalled everyday. If the American unions were smart, they would be coming up with an ad campaign about the quality of Chinese products and how American workers can do better. But they won’t… or maybe they could go to China and organize their workers! Think about it… union workers in the hundreds of millions. Oh, that’s right - under Communism unions are illegal. Never mind.

So here’s the items recalled yesterday (I already mentioned the reused, unsanitized chopsticks - disgusting - yesterday):

Spongebob LeadPants?

An Ohio importer recalled nearly 250,000 SpongeBob SquarePants address books and journals manufactured in China because the bindings might contain hazardous levels of lead paint, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

Wal-Mart Says Removed Chinese-Made Dog Treats Over Deadly Chemical

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) said it pulled two Chinese-made dog treats from its shelves nearly a month earlier, and tests now show they had traces of melamine, a chemical found in pet food that was blamed for the deaths of pets and led to a massive recall earlier this year.

The two types of dog treats — Chicken Jerky Strips manufactured by Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co. and Chicken Jerky manufactured by Shanghai Bestro Trading — were removed from its stores on July 26, Wal-Mart spokeswoman Deisha Galberth said in a statement.

It’s THE RECALL WAR! China retaliates:

China Accuses U.S. of Exporting Tainted Soybeans

China, on the defensive over the safety of its products, lashed out Wednesday at the U.S. by claiming its soybean exports contained pesticides, poisonous weeds and dirt and blaming American manufacturer Mattel Inc. in part for lead tainting that prompted the recall of millions of toys.

Either that’s a poorly written paragraph or China is really accusing Mattel of growing tainted soybeans!… just kidding. It’s just a run-on sentence.
